This WWII WASP T shirt is a reproduction of an original WWII PT shirt from our collection.  This WWII Air Transport Command PT Shirt has 5th Ferrying Group Air Transport Command Love Field Texas on the front with the Air Transport Command Insignia in the center.

The first WASP pilots, originally known as the WAFS, served with the Air Transport Command in a number of the Ferrying Groups.  The 5th Ferrying Group was formed at Love Field in Dallas Texas.  Florene Miller commanded the WAFS in the 5th Ferrying Group, which included Helen Richards, Dorothy Scott, Betsy Ferguson and Helen Love.  They  ferried PT-17’s, AT-6’s and twin-engine Cessna AT-17’s. Later they were merged with the WASP program.

The Fifth Ferrying Group was transferred to Love Field on September 28, 1942.  Their primary mission was to ferry military planes from the factory areas to domestic stations and fighting fronts. Their training program qualified crews to fly “anything, anywhere, anytime”.  The 5th Ferrying Group was started with the B-24’s, and later the A-20’s, B-25’s, C-49s and B-20s.  The Fifth Ferrying Group supervised nine subordinate units and service stations of the First Army Airway Communication System Wing.  In 1944, The 5th Ferrying Group took responsibility for the Military Air. Transport, transporting war supplies and materials, move personnel to and from assignments and evacuate war wounded from coastal ports of entry to hospitals.  Both Men and Women comprised the personnel of the Fifth Ferrying Group.

This sweatshirt is screened by hand and variation in colors naturally occur as they did during WWII.
The sweatshirts are 60% Cotton and 40% Polyester and are Machine Wash Cold with like colors, Tumble Dry Low.
