This Medical Corps mug is a reproduction of the original Medical Department mug that was part of the WWII era Medical Dept china set.
Homer Laughlin, better known as the maker of Fiestaware, was one of 7 different pottery / dinnerware companies that made the Medical Department china for the US Army.
When we worked with Homer Laughlin to recreate this mug, Homer Laughlin looked up the production information on the WWII mug that they made during the 1940’s. Homer Laughlin still uses that model number in their current line, so they made this reproduction using the same model number as they did during WWII.
During WWII, Homer Laughlin made their mug using a casting process. Today, that same mug is made using a mug machine. Therefore, if you compare an original WWII Medical Mug to the reproduction Medical Mug, you will see that the sidewalls
of an original mug will be thicker and may vary in width around the mug. The reproduction WWII US Army Medical Mug will have slightly thinner walls and they will be very consistent around the mug. In addition, the position of the handle is about a ¼” inch higher.
This drinkware is dishwasher, freezer and microwave safe.
