This GI-issue U.S. Army soap is a WWII reproduction of the US Army issue soap. This is the larger, 4 oz type of soap. A useable bar of 85% organic, unscented soap is inside the repro wrapper. Once unwrapped, soaps can be trimmed with a sharp knife to fit the smaller period soap dishes.
During WWII soap packaging varied by the manufacturer as well as by year. In addition to G.I. issue soap, soldiers could purchase private-purchase soap in px’s, giving them choices like Palmolive, Lifebuoy, Ivory, and Camay. As specified by the wrapper, GI issue soap was an all-purpose soap that could be used for cleaning your mess kit as well as your ears. Note that the soap was to be carried in the cellophane cracker package that came with the K-rations.
