“Buy War Bonds” was a common slogan during WWII. This For Victory Buy War Bonds T shirt is a sample of the huge campaign run by the U.S. Government during the war.
Initially called Defense Bonds, the name changed to War Bonds after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941. From posters to songs to cartoons and more, 85 million Americans supported the war by buying war bonds and war stamps to the tune of approximately 185 billion dollars.
As seen on this WWII Buy War Bonds T shirt, the V for Victory logo was often used during the war, usually highlighted in Red, White and Blue.
Huge advertising campaigns were run to promote War bonds. Over a quarter of a billion dollars of advertising was donated by companies in the United States. Celebrities like Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope, Bette Davis and Marlena Dietrich toured the country, putting on live shows and radio programs to promote the sale of War Bonds. Superman, Batman, Robin, Bugs Bunny and more got into the spirit, saying “We are all in this together”. A $25.00 War Bond could be purchased for $18.75, which would mature in 10 years. Even children contributed by buying War Stamps for 10 cents and collecting their stamps in Bond booklets, that could be turned in for a War Bond.
All of our WWII Tee shirts are hand screen printed, like they were during the war, so variations in colors naturally occur.
Our WWII PT shirts have the U.S Spec tag in the neck. The For Victory Buy War Bonds T shirt is made of 100% cotton and runs true to size. Women’s sizes are available upon request. Please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org
