This WWII 2 ounce D Ration Bar is made of modern materials, so it is not edible and will not melt in the summer heat. It’s perfect for film and theatrical productions as well as for use in museum displays. If you want to make edible d-ration bars, take a look at our food-safe molds.
The iconic D-ration bar was created by Hershey for use by soldiers overseas as an emergency ration. Contrary to popular belief, these were not solid chocolate. In fact, it was designed to be just edible enough that a soldier who needed one would eat it, but a soldier who didn’t need it wouldn’t snack on it. A vast majority of these bars were produced by Hershey’s Chocolate Corporation in Hershey, PA, although other companies including Nestle’s and smaller chocolatiers also manufactured the bars.
