The 8th Infantry Division was reactivated on July 1, 1940 at Fort Jackson, SC.  The 8th Infantry was sent to Ireland for training and was part of the Normandy Invasion.  They served in a number of campaigns in Europe and turned toward the German border.  The Eighth Infantry took part in the Central Europe Campaign and crossed the Rhine River in March.  In May they crossed the Elbe River.  At the war’s end, the 8th Infantry Division assumed occupation duties in Germany before returning back to the States in 1945.

During WWII, athletic style t shirts were available for purchase at the PX and were commonly used in training and athletic situations. PT shirts with a variety of different unit logos are well documented in many WWII photographs.
