This WWII AAF Chanute Field Illinois T shirt is a reproduction of an original WWII T-shirt taken from a photograph.
Chanute Field was commissioned as a flying field to train pilots during WWI, because of its level land and the proximity to Chicago and the railroads.
After the attack by Japan on Pearl Harbor, thousands arrived at Chanute Field to sign up for the Army Air Corps. The large number of recruits that arrived out paced the available housing, so many slept in large tents.
The WAC (Women’s Army Corps) School was established in early 1944 at Chanute Field. In addition, the AAFTC (Army Air Forces Training Command) moved helicopter training to Chanute Field at the end of 1944.
All of our WWII T-shirts are hand screen printed like they were during the war, so variations in colors naturally occur.
Our WWII PT shirts have the U.S Spec tag in the neck. The WWII Canute Field T-shirt is made of 100% cotton and runs true to size.
