We’ve had numerous requests to make a Naval Amphibious Base shirt for the D-Day Ohio event and we were super excited to stumble upon photos of an original Little Creek Amphibious Training Base t-shirt.
Little Creek was the center of amphibious training for the ETO. The various landing craft crews – LST, LSM, LCM, LCVP, LCI and LCU crews – were trained at Little Creek. These crews would later figure prominently in both Operation Torch and Operation Overlord.
During WWII, more than 360,000 Naval, USMC, and Army troops trained there before being processed for overseas duty from North Africa to Normandy.
Military planners realized in early 1942 that in order to wage a successful war against Germany and Japan, a landing force capable of taking and holding a beach head would be needed. The Amphibious Naval base was built on waterlogged bean farm near the Little Creek inlet in Virginia.
Four separate bases were built on the same land near the Little Creek Inlet. Camp Bradford, Camp Shelton, the Amphibious Training Base and Frontier base were all part of the Amphibious training and deployment program.
During WWII, athletic style tshirts were available for purchase at the PX and were commonly used in training and athletic situations. PT shirts with a variety of different unit logos are well documented in many WWII photographs.
This replica WWII t-shirt is screened by hand and variation in colors naturally occur. Our WWII Reproduction tee shirts have h a spec tag screened inside the neck.
Just like the original t shirts, this reproduction is 100% cotton with a period correct narrow 5/8″ neck, shorter sleeves and a slim/snug fit. These WWII Reproductions are true to size.
