Description

The WWII Special Air Corps Ration Box is a reproduction package of an early bailout ration box.

These Special Air Corps rations were developed for the Army Air Force without the coordination or cooperation of the Quartermaster Corps. Eventually, once the Quartermaster would get involved, these would become the Bailout Ration.

Originally, these boxes contained two of the 2 oz Ration D Bars, one 10 gram package of  Boullion Powder, two of the 2 oz packages Malted Milk and Lemon Flavored Dextrose Tablets, and two Sticks of Chewing Gum.  The Special Air Corp Ration was used in several of the USAAF emergency kits, including the B-1 Parachute Emergency Kit, which also included a package of 3 4 oz D-rations.

The rough measurements that we have of this box are larger than the later bailout ration, likely due to the 1942 size specifications of D-ration and dextrose tablet boxes. (Both were made smaller to better fix K-rations.) In addition, we slightly adjusted the measurements to insure that this box fits our 2 oz D-rations and early war dextrose tablet boxes.

The box is for display purposes only. Contains no food product.
